OPENINGS|Qingdao’s Version of a Park City Taking Shape

Jun 24, 2022Byiqingdao

Build a 265 km-long coastal greenway stretching from Laoshan District to the West Coast New Area to connect the downtown area; remove the partitions among Zhongshan Park, Qingdao Botanical Garden, Qingdao Zoo and Qingdao Beech Forest Park to connect the 7.75 km round-the-hill greenway at the outermost side of Taipingshan Central Park and integrate it with the city; and implement the "Last Kilometer" Tree-lined Roads project to transform the routes from the communities to bus stops into the tree-lined roads, making it more convenient for citizens to take the public transportation.

Qingdao's park city construction aims to improve the ecological environment and improve the quality of the city. It follows the guideline of the "parks +" and "greenways + ", which can be summarized as the "12131 " systematic project,  namely, building one urban greenway network, creating 200 parkland spaces, building 100 tree-lined corridors, promoting three-dimensional greening in 300 areas, and implementing one ecological greening project. The systematic project is planned to be advanced from 2022 to 2024.
