Jul 15, 2023

With the theme of "Design Changes Cities", "Sail of Tsingtao" 2023 Urban Regeneration Global Trends Forum successfully held in Qingdao on July 14. This event includes Urban Regeneration Theme Exhibition, Global Trends in Urban Regeneration and Curating Themes by I.M. Pei and presentations by several Forum Speakers. As China's urban development enters a deep-water zone, Qingdao, a city with a rich historical heritage and emerging culture, is relying on the organic renewal of the city to create new qualities and new forces. The concept of urban regeneration began in Europe after the Second World War, when cities were still had a task of rebuilding. At that time, people were able to restore their culturally rich cities to their former glory by repairing them. After 1980, the concept of regional urban regeneration was gradually developed to give a new lease of life to industrial areas or old urban districts that had lost their industries or were lagging behind in terms of development.

At the forum, BOP, an internationally renowned urban consulting organization, selected 27 classic representatives from many successful urban revitalization cases for in-depth analysis and research on the development of urban revitalization around the world, such as Tongyeong Culture and Art City Project in South Korea, Centro de Desarrollo Cultural Moravia in Colombia, and so on.
