"Tides and Textures" International Art Exhibition Lands in Shinan District

Oct 30, 2025Byiqingdao

Qingdao News Network, October 30 (Reporter: Song Bohong) – When the rhythm of the Yellow Sea tides meets the textures of multinational art, a cross-border dialogue on body and existence in art magnificently kicked off in Shinan District, Qingdao. On October 29, the contemporary art group exhibition "Tides and Textures" officially opened at the TAOz ROOM art space. The exhibition will run until December 31. This event gathers masterpieces from contemporary artists from China, Chile, Belarus, and Spain, not only offering a high-end artistic feast for citizens and tourists but also injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of regional culture and tourism.

This exhibition takes Qingdao, a city born of the sea and thriving on its port, as its theoretical field. It aims to explore the unique imprints of individual lives under the new "cultural tide" of globalization. Using creation itself as a medium, it points to the very core of art—the inquiry into existence, the revival of perception, and a devout gaze upon the integrity of life. Chinese artist Fu Xiaotong leaves traces of time on paper with 56,985 needle pricks; Shen Chen materializes the passage of time with fifty layers of accumulated paint; Qu Fengguo transforms the "Twenty-Four Solar Terms" into tangible bodily memories; Yuan Daxi translates musical counterpoint into visual juxtaposition, with the body acting as a conductor coordinating multiple temporalities; Jiang Miao constructs totems with incisions, performing a spiritual alchemy between blade and color; Ma Kelu's works reflect the completeness of personality, a clear presentation of the state of life itself; Chen Duxi captures the veins of all things with the eyes of a child, restoring the classical way of contemplation.
These works embody Eastern philosophical thought while subtly echoing the natural order of time. Fernando Prats from Chile allows paper to be "created" upon by seismic waves and the flight of birds, while Spanish artist Josep Maria Riera i Aragó showcases material transformation through bronze casting. "A machine can replicate shapes, but it cannot replicate the sedimentation of time in the body." As a curatorial note of the exhibition emphasizes, the texture of the exhibited works condenses hundreds of hours of creative meditation by the artists. When the audience gazes at the works, they are in fact reading the traces of a dialogue between the body, materials, and time.
The head of TAOz ROOM in Qingdao stated that the exhibition was co-organized with the assistance of Dé Yu Táng, and received support from O2Art Gallery, and Whitestone Gallery. Artists such as Chen Duxi, Jiang Miao, Ma Kelu, and Ren Zhitian also generously shared their insights. In the future, the gallery will continue to introduce high-quality art projects.
