Qingdao Maps Out Science and Technology Innovation Corridor as "Innovation Artery"

Mar 04, 2026

On January 15th, the Qingdao Municipal Government held a press conference to systematically introduce the construction blueprint, implementation path, and multi-stakeholder initiatives for the Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, outlining an "innovation artery" and "new industrial backbone" that will drive the city's future development.

The Qingdao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor spans 53 kilometers north to south along Binhai Avenue, covering a planned area of approximately 190 square kilometers and connecting Laoshan District, Licang District, and Qingdao Blue Valley. This area represents not only the region richest in strategic scientific and technological resources, most prominent in "intelligent manufacturing" characteristics, and most vibrant in innovation ecosystem, but also carries the mission of establishing a new highland for innovative development with national and global competitiveness and visibility. Wang Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of Qingdao Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor, stated that building the Science and Technology Innovation Corridor is a crucial move for Qingdao to establish new development advantages amid the waves of the new era. It is not merely a physical corridor, but a core carrier for integrating resources, promoting transformation, and aggregating essential elements.

According to the plan, the Qingdao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor will establish a spatial pattern of "One Corridor Connecting, Three Cities Driving, Multiple Clusters Linking," leveraging three strategic pillars—Laoshan Digital Intelligence Industrial City, Licang Youth Science and Innovation City, and Blue Valley Marine Science and Technology City—to catalyze integrated development across the entire region. The development goals are clearly defined: by 2027, the corridor's functional form will take initial shape, with key laboratories and other resources accounting for over 45% of the city's total aggregation, and multiple key innovation indicators growing by more than 15%; by 2035, its leading role will be significantly demonstrated, establishing it as a nationally renowned youth "innovation and enjoyment" highland, a nationally leading "intelligent manufacturing" industrial highland, and a world-class marine science and technology innovation and industrial highland.
