Fulong Hill Meteorological Theme Park Opens, "Meteorology + Park" Model Adds New Landmark to Qingdao's Old Town

Jun 04, 2026

The Fulong Hill Meteorological Theme Park, jointly renovated and upgraded by the Qingdao Municipal Administration of Gardens and Forestry and the Qingdao Meteorological Bureau, recently opened to the public. The Bureau treated the motions and suggestions from deputies to the Municipal People's Congress as a key livelihood project, acting swiftly to deliver tangible results. The renovation has transformed Fulong Hill into a distinctive new landmark for the old city, combining meteorological science education, leisure sightseeing, and cultural experiences.

Located on Fulong Road — connecting Qidong Road to the east, fronting Fulong Road to the west, and adjacent to the Qingdao Meteorological Bureau to the north — the park sits 86 meters above sea level and covers approximately 21,500 square meters. The project supports the preservation and renewal of Qingdao's historic urban area. While retaining the original topography, vegetation, and natural rustic charm, it thoughtfully incorporates meteorological culture through immersive experience zones, including a meteorological culture corridor, interactive science installations, and thematic landscape pieces. Visitors can enjoy the thrill of weather observation while strolling through the park, learning meteorological science — turning the park into an "open-air science classroom" right on their doorstep.

From the elevated vantage point, the view opens up dramatically. Qingdao's iconic old-town landmarks — Guanxiang Hill, Huiquan Bay, St. Michael's Cathedral, Zhanqiao Pier — come into view one after another, presenting the city's signature scenery of "red tiles and green trees, azure sea and blue sky." The park features a variety of flowering trees and shrubs, including magnolias, cherry blossoms, red maples, and goldenrain trees, ensuring seasonal beauty throughout the year. A winding mountain trail and flagstone paths offer quiet, secluded walks, while public benches are thoughtfully placed for rest. The park feels both serene and lively — early-morning exercisers, children at play, and stray cats wandering through add warmth and vitality to this hilltop retreat.

The park is open year-round, free of charge, and easily accessible. Visitors can take Metro Line 1 or 4 to Guanxiangshan (Qingdao Municipal Hospital) Station, Exit D, and walk about 700 meters. Multiple bus routes also serve the area, making it convenient for citizens and tourists to visit at any time.

From a legislative motion to a real-world public amenity, from an ordinary hilltop park to a distinctive meteorological landmark, Fulong Hill Meteorological Theme Park embodies the innovative "Meteorology + Park" integration model. It enhances urban public services, enriches citizens' leisure life, and expands the reach of meteorological culture in Qingdao, injecting new vitality into the city's historic preservation framework. In the future, the park will continue to host meteorological science outreach and cultural experience activities, bringing meteorological culture into public life and establishing itself as a shining new cultural tourism landmark in Qingdao's old town.
