A Sports Park is Ready to "Spring Up" from the Hemashi Bus Terminal Site!

Jun 12, 2026Byiqingdao

Recently, near the intersection of Jinsong 1st Road and Liaoyang West Road, on the Hemashi Bus Terminal site, vehicles are parked in an orderly manner in the already completed parking lot. In the vacant area on the other side, excavators are leveling the ground while workers busily shuttle back and forth. This once-neglected urban corner is quietly undergoing a transformation.

Mr. Ma, the on-site construction manager, introduced that in addition to the parking lot put into use last year, a sports park integrating a football pitch, basketball court, pickleball court, and tennis court is currently under construction. The park will also be equipped with an activity room and a children's play area, while a fitness trail of over 300 meters long has been planned around the courts. This piece of land, covering an area of approximately 20,000 square meters, is now embracing a rebirth.

To accommodate the slopes and retaining walls, the project has also planned vertical greening, selecting climbing plants such as Virginia creeper that grow downwards, which is both aesthetically pleasing and ecologically friendly. This renovation goes beyond simply "growing" a park; it also conveniently resolves the biggest "headache" for nearby residents for many years—a missing section of pavement on Jinsong 1st Road.

Ms. Lu, who has lived in the neighborhood for over ten years, told reporters that when turning onto Jinsong 1st Road from Liaoyang West Road heading west, the pavement abruptly ends, forcing pedestrians onto the carriageway. During the morning and evening rush hours, walkers have to weave through the traffic, which is very dangerous. "There is a bus station right next to it, and taking public transit is very convenient, but because there is no sidewalk, walking here is not very safe for the elderly and children," said Ms. Lu.

According to the construction party, taking advantage of this regional renovation, the pavements and green belts will not only be interconnected all the way to Liaoyang West Road, but a bay-style bus shelter is also planned to be installed, eliminating once and for all the long-standing traffic safety hazards. The project is expected to be completed by late September this year. By then, this previously untidy site will transform into a community hub right at the residents' doorsteps, seamlessly combining parking, sports, and leisure.
