During the summer travel peak, Qingdao leverages its mountain and coastal resources to develop “low-altitude+” cultural tourism. The city is transforming its tourism from flat ground sightseeing to three-dimensional consumption, fostering a brand-new industrial chain featuring aerial experiences and ground-based services. A full-scenario low-altitude tourism layout is taking rapid shape.
Qingdao is home to Skydreamer Skydiving Base, the only coastal skydiving base in North China, ranking among the country’s top three in visitor volume. Its spectacular ocean views attract tourists traveling from afar. Since operations kicked off in early April, the base has completed over 150 flights and hosted nearly 1,000 skydiving participants, with competitive pricing nationwide. To cope with surging visitor numbers, the base has upgraded to larger aircraft. It offers full-process video recording and multi-angle photography packages to enrich visitor experiences. Plans are underway to introduce national-level aerosports events to turn Qingdao skydiving into a shining urban calling card.
A wealth of new low-altitude tourism formats and exclusive aerial routes have emerged across the city. Connected with six major cultural and tourism IPs, Cangma Aviation has built a complete business ecosystem. It recorded more than 1,000 flights and received over 10,000 visitors in the first half of this year. Moving forward, it will launch cross-city low-altitude routes linking Qingdao with Rizhao and Weihai, roll out customized services including corporate charter flights and aerial weddings, expand flight camps, and upgrade aviation study tour programmes. Distinct low-altitude experience projects have also been launched in Laoshan and Laixi to build local aerial tourism brands. Drone light shows regularly staged at the Olympic Sailing Center energize the nighttime economy. The upcoming Qingdao International Beer Festival will feature low-altitude sightseeing and aerial stunt performances. In addition, helipads have been reserved on Xiaoguan Island for the development of “low-altitude plus island resort” tourism.
Qingdao is stepping up efforts to integrate “low-altitude+” tourism with urban culture, scenic spots, catering, sports, events, conventions, performances and technology, striving to cultivate more distinctive tourism landmarks for the city.
