During the summer travel season, Shinan District of Qingdao is integrating the city’s vibrant street-life economy with residents consumption and cultural tourism experiences. By revitalizing resources across historic streets, traditional neighborhoods and nighttime commercial districts, the area is creating a new summer tourism landscape where visitors can experience authentic local life by day and trendy entertainment after dark, continuously stimulating the city’s summer consumption vitality.

Local specialty shops in the historic urban area have become a major attraction for cultural tourism. Historic neighborhoods such as Sanjiangli and Sifang Road have brought together a wide range of traditional and emerging food businesses. Some are long-established local shops that have operated for years, preserving authentic Qingdao flavors through handmade preparation and fresh seafood dishes, which perfectly match the nostalgic atmosphere of the old city’s cultural tourism scene. Others are trendy internet-famous stores catering to younger tastes, creatively reinventing seafood specialties and gaining popularity with their stylish presentation and generous portions. These shops have become must-visit check-in spots for tourists exploring Qingdao’s historic districts, continuously drawing visitors and revitalizing the old urban area.
Nighttime cultural tourism experiences are also becoming increasingly diverse, creating immersive summer experiences full of atmosphere. Areas such as Pichaiyuan and Taixingli have developed distinctive summer night scenes. On one side, lively food markets and large event live-streaming screens create a vibrant atmosphere for summer gatherings; on the other, the “coffee by day, cocktails by night” lifestyle trend has been introduced, combining live music performances with specialty drinks to meet the leisure and social needs of younger travelers.
The Old Town venue of the 36th Qingdao International Beer Festival, set to open on July 17, will introduce a series of distinctive cultural tourism activities. The venue will launch an affordable 9.9-yuan beer tasting program, release an exclusive city exploration map linking historic attractions, local specialty restaurants and Instagram-worthy photo spots across the old town, and roll out co-branded cultural and creative products as well as themed pop-up events. With new experiences offered every day and fresh highlights every night, the festival will continue to energize nighttime consumption and inject new vitality into Qingdao’s historic urban area.

The Fushansuo Seafood Market has also completed a major upgrade, featuring two themed sections: a traditional seafood market and a nighttime market. It offers an immersive seafood tourism experience centered around “caught fresh, cooked fresh and enjoyed fresh.” Combined with consumer vouchers and transparent pricing, the market serves both as a destination for local cuisine and a place to purchase Qingdao souvenirs. It has become a key cultural tourism landmark for visitors seeking authentic Qingdao flavors during summer, fully stimulating the city’s vibrant summer street-life economy and cultural tourism appeal.
