On the afternoon of September 23, in the men’s 200m freestyle final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, 19-year-old Qingdao swimming star Zhang Zhanshuo won the gold medal in 1:43.49, breaking the Asian record by 0.43 seconds and claiming his fourth gold medal of the Games.

Zhang Zhanshuo’s winning time would have been fast enough to win gold at each of the past three Olympic Games. In 2028, the then 21-year-old Zhang will set his sights on the men’s 200m freestyle title at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Before his victory in the 200m freestyle, Zhang had already won gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, the men’s 1500m freestyle and the mixed 4x100m medley relay at this year’s Asian Games.
Zhang will next compete in the men’s 400m and 800m freestyle events, as well as the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. He will be aiming to make history as a potential seven-gold medalist at the Games.
