Breezy sea winds and rolling waves embrace Qingdao in October. At 13:00 on the 11th, the 2026 World Rowing Coastal Championships officially kicked off at Golden Beach in the West Coast New Area. Under the theme of “Race along the Coast, Row toward the Future — Qingdao Embarks on a Blue Ocean Journey with the World”, the event gathers 194 athletes from 18 countries and regions on the shores of the Yellow Sea. They will compete in heats and finals across a three-day competition schedule.

The competition features three categories: men’s, women’s and mixed, covering seven events including single sculls and double sculls. On the sparkling sea, rowing boats slice through the blue water like sharp blades, with swirling oars kicking up splashing waves. Athletes showcase the unique charm of coastal rowing with outstanding strength and seamless teamwork. Distant sails dot the sea surface while cheers resound along the shore, energizing Qingdao’s vibrant autumn coastline with this top-tier international sporting event.

More than a fierce contest of speed and passion, the championships serve as a wonderful rendezvous where Qingdao connects and engages with the world via the blue ocean. In the next two days, all championship titles will be decided. With inclusive openness, Qingdao will fully present the extraordinary glamour of coastal rowing sports to the globe.
