Qingdao's Summer Spectacle: Orange Trumpet Creeper Cascades Transform Streets into "Flower Waterfalls"

Jun 26, 2026

During the summer months, along several lanes and streets in Qingdao—including Wushengguan Branch Road, Yushan Road, Laiyang Road, and Fuzhou Road—vibrant orange trumpet creepers spill over walls and cascade down like waterfalls, offering an unexpected visual treat for passersby. Tourists and locals often stop to capture the moment with their cameras, preserving the romance of this limited-time summer display. Known in Chinese as lingxiaohua, this plant is also referred to as ziwei (Chinese trumpet creeper), wuzhualong (five-clawed dragon), or daogua jinzhong (hanging golden bell). Its name in Chinese, lingxiao, references its ability to climb high, as it is said to "scale trees to great heights." Its bloom period typically lasts from May to August.
