On August 12, aboard Qingdao Airlines’ inbound flight from Kuala Lumpur to Qingdao, the carrier joined hands with the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and Qingdao Tourism Group to launch the themed airborne beer festival “Meet in the Clouds, Cheers to Qingdao”. Bringing Qingdao’s urban charm, marine culture and the festive vibe of the Beer Festival into the cabin, the event presented inbound passengers with a city welcome ceremony tens of thousands of meters above the ground.
Breaking the conventional model of cultural‑tourism promotion only after arrival, the event shifted experience‑oriented promotion to the pre‑landing phase, turning the aircraft cabin into a mobile showcase for the city. Once the flight reached cruising altitude, cabin crew acted as “in‑flight cultural‑tourism ambassadors”, introducing premium cultural‑tourism resources including the offshore routes at Olympic Sailing Center, Qingdao Underwater World and the immersive epic show Dreams of the Blue Sea. Corresponding experience privileges were offered to bridge the gap between virtual introduction and on‑site participation. Interactive quizzes and travel‑expectation sharing sessions were organized, with ticketing channels made available to link in‑flight publicity to offline consumption. Under strict aviation‑safety protocols, passengers enjoyed small‑portion beer tasting on a voluntary basis and raised their glasses together. Beer served as a cultural emblem embodying Qingdao’s open‑minded and hospitable spirit.

On August 13, in partnership with the West Coast New Area Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Qingdao Airlines hosted another themed airborne beer festival titled “Cheers to Golden Beach, Vibrant West Coast” on its Qingdao‑Chengdu flight, continuing their long‑running collaboration. Crew briefed passengers on highlights of the 36th Qingdao International Beer Festival. Fun quizzes disseminated information about the festival and local attractions, while adult passengers could opt for beer tasting to savour the summer festivity aloft.
Against the backdrop of scenario‑based marketing covering the whole travel journey, the aircraft cabin has become a vital link connecting tourist‑generating markets and destinations. This initiative established a culture‑tourism integration framework featuring “government guidance, platform‑based integration, airline outreach and product delivery”. While cultural‑tourism authorities oversaw brand building and Qingdao Tourism Group supplied quality tourist products, Qingdao Airlines leveraged its international routes to reach inbound visitors. Beyond passenger transportation, air travel evolved into a key vehicle for city‑branding and tourism‑driven consumption conversion.

Marking another innovative “aviation plus cultural‑tourism” practice, the project transformed the airline from a mere transport provider into a cultural‑tourism communicator for the city. Going forward, Qingdao Airlines will deepen cooperation with cultural‑tourism authorities and enterprises to roll out more themed flights and travel products. The cabin will be built into an “air‑based parlour” showcasing Qingdao, enabling domestic and overseas visitors to get acquainted with the city the moment they board the aircraft.
