Qingdao Port Ranks First in Northeast Asia

Oct 17, 2020Byiqingdao

The latest data from the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai International Shipping Research Center show that in 2020, the cargo throughput of Qingdao Port in Shandong province was 605 million tons, up 4.7% year-on-year, surpassing the Singapore Port to rank fifth in the world; the container throughput was 22.01 million TEU, up 4.7% year-on-year, surpassing Busan Port to rank sixth in the world and first in Northeast Asia. That means that the Qingdao Port in Shandong province is more prominent as the international shipping hub of Northeast Asia, which will be a major change in the overall pattern of Northeast Asian ports.

Integration is a keyword for Qingdao Port to advance and catch up. The formation of Shandong Provincial Port Group makes the competition of Northeast Asian hub ports be a group battle.

From a higher dimension, the world's strong ports not only are big in throughput, but also depend on the influence and driving force that determines the gold content and added value of the port. For Qingdao Port, it is especially important to make up for the short boards of ship replenishment support services and modern high-end shipping elements.

Relying on the resource advantages of Shandong ports, Qingdao Port has taken a high leading position to integrate into the new development pattern, seize the opportunity of RCEP, and promoted the development of high-end port and logistics services such as cold chain logistics and futures trading into the fast lane.

The world port competition is getting more and more fierce, and a more aggressive Qingdao Port is speeding up to be the international shipping hub of Northeast Asia.
