On March 8, 2018, general secretary Xi Jinping, when attending the deliberation session of the Shandong delegation to the First Session of the 13th National People's Congress, stressed that the ocean is a strategic area for high-quality development. Efforts should be stepped up to build world-class ports, a sound modern marine industrial system, and a green and sustainable marine eco-environment, so as to turn China into a strong maritime nation. This is a major political task entrusted to Shandong by the general secretary, charting the course for Shandong's endeavor to build a strong maritime province.
