Qingdao Selected as “Gigabit City”

On December 24, the first “Gigabit City” Summit Forum was held in Qingdao. The list of the first "Gigabit City" was released at the forum, and 29 cities in China, including Qingdao, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, were selected.

At present, the coverage rate of gigabit fiber optic network for urban households in Qingdao has reached 147.55%, the access rate of 5G network in key places has reached 95.87%, the number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people has reached 17.12, and the percentage of users with 500Mbps and above has reached 32.98%.

The evaluation and assessment of "gigabit city" is carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to promote the accelerated construction of "double gigabit" networks represented by 5G and gigabit optical networks to promote faster and better development of China's digital economy.

The first batch of Gigabit Cities are city that have achieved good results in the construction of "Double Gigabit" network and can play a demonstration and leading role for the whole country.
